- Brief Description
1. Integrated in RedinRen (Spanish renal research network), which is building a CKD biobank
2. Diabetic nephropathy: from the human DN transcriptome to new biomarkers and therapeutic targets: a long-standing collaboration with Matthias Kretzler (now at U of Michigan). Our group provides animal models and functional cell culture (podocyte, tubular cell) and animal studies. Focus on cell death and inflammation
3. Acute kidney injury: role of cell death and inflammation, search for new therapeutic targets
4. Influence of glucose and glucose degradation products on cell biology
5. Peritoneal dialysis: local and systemic effects of PD solutions
6. Biology of TWEAK/Fn14: involvement in cell death, cell proliferation, inflammation and fibrosis, role in podocyte, tubular cell and fibroblast biology
7. Animal models: murine folic-acid nephropathy, unilateral ureteral obstruction and renal ischemia-reperfusion, streptozotocin induced diabetes, uninephrectomized spontaneously hypertensive rats
